Mission - Statement of Purpose
Western Strings is devoted to bringing music education and performances to Native American communities and other underserved populations in Montana and Wyoming.
- Western Strings provides opportunities for children in rural communities to learn musical expression through singing and playing musical instruments, incorporating local traditions and languages as appropriate.
- Western Strings presents performances to foster connections, inspire new musicians, instill a sense of pride, and enrich culture.
- Western Strings supports creative expression by linking musicians, students, organizations, and audiences.
Programs
- In November, 2022, Western Strings began teaching violin classes for students in grades 3 - 6 on the Absáalooke (Crow) reservation in Lodge Grass, Montana.
- We founded string music instruction at Plenty Coup schools in Pryor, Montana, at Veritas Academy, and after-school in Park 6 schools in Cody, Wyoming.
- A new string music after-school program will launch in Butte, Montana in spring 2026.
- In 2024, we began presenting chamber music concerts in Cody Wyoming.
- In 2025, we presented a performance of Part I of Handel's Messiah in collaboration with the Cody Chamber Ensemble.
